Mission

gcse historyThe mission of the MFL team and our curriculum is to engage students of all backgrounds in language learning and to encourage recognition of the multiple benefits this provides, at the same time promoting a healthy curiosity for the wider world.

Aims

The MFL department aims to build on prior language learning and prepare students to be able to; communicate with native speakers, use languages in the workplace and continue study at A level. We aim to enable children to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech and in writing.

We aim to inspire students to share our passion for languages and foster their natural curiosity for new cultures and traditions, creating opportunities for children of all backgrounds to broaden their horizons and deepen their understanding of the world.

Learning a foreign language is an important part of being a member of a multi-cultural society and it is a valuable skill to be able to communicate effectively with others in another language. It is also a strong medium for learning new ways of thinking and acquiring new skills which can be applied to other subjects.
