Operating Principles

We have clearly defined and measurable high expectations for academic achievement and conduct that make no excuses based on pupils’ backgrounds. Pupils, parents, teachers, and staff create and reinforce a culture of achievement and support through a range of formal and informal rewards and consequences for academic performance and behaviour.

We know that there are no shortcuts when it comes to success in academics and life. We have deliberately designed the school day to provide pupils with more time, both to acquire the academic knowledge and skills that will prepare them for the next stage of their education and to engage in diverse extracurricular experiences.

We do not view children as good or poor learners. We see the difference between learners as the amount of time that is required to master subject content. If given appropriate time and instruction, we expect virtually all of our learners to learn important academic content to a high level of excellence. Our school day allows additional time for teachers to provide support for those pupils who have not yet achieved mastery and enrichment activities for those learners who have.

We do not take “no” for an answer easily. If there is a way, we find it. We are persistent, insistent, and deliberate in our actions, doing whatever it takes to help our children be successful. We give 100% every day and go the extra mile to make the difference in the lives of our pupils. We also understand that “whatever it takes” is a team mandate, with different individuals taking the lead at different times to ensure that our goals are accomplished.

We value integrity and always model it for our students. Our core values – Trust, Enthusiasm, Fairness and Hard Work – are not merely posted on the wall for pupils; they are also our professional values and drive our word and actions as adults. We consider the impact our actions will have on others and work carefully to be transparent and fair. We admit our mistakes and work to make them right. Even when we are successful, we are humble and understand that we always have more to learn.
