Online Work Experience: Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust
Applications now open!
Whilst this a different approach to offer work experience within an NHS trust, these programmes are very informative, engaging and will provide an insight into careers which many may not know exist.
The online programmes have been commissioned through Springpod who have delivered similar programmes to NHS Trusts nationally. The programmes will use an ‘on demand’ function, which will allow participants to access the programmes during their work experience weeks or within their own time if they have a particular interest in a career. The programmes will ‘go live’ from June 13th.
All applications for the programmes must be submitted via the links provided.
Three programmes are available to access, which are:
- Medicine – To apply follow this link: Medicine with the Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin ICS (springpod.com)
- Allied Health Professionals – To apply follow this link: Allied Health Professions with the Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin ICS (springpod.com)
- Nursing & Midwifery – To apply follow this link: Nursing & Midwifery with the Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin ICS (springpod.com)
Embedded in each programme is the opportunity to discover other careers including pharmacy, healthcare science and dentistry.
Over the three programmes, you will gain an understanding of each Allied Health Profession, several nursing and medical specialities.
In the Allied Health Professions programme, participants will get a taste of the work done by occupational therapists and dietitians, as well as assess the needs of patients and work out which Allied Health Profession is most suited to help in different scenarios.
In the Medicine programme, you will complete activities relating to specialities including diagnosing patients, tying surgical knots, investigating a patient's history, and labelling a heart.
In the Nursing & Midwifery programme, you will consider scenarios specific to midwifery and adult nursing, as well as become familiar with the responsibilities of children's, mental health and learning disability nurses and be given an opportunity to reflect on which speciality would best suit your values and skillset.
It is anticipated that each programme will take 10 hours to complete and upon completion a certificate is awarded to add to personal portfolios.

Shrewsbury Colleges Group Year 10 Taster Day: 01 July 2022
Shrewsbury Colleges Group (SCG) has invited us, along with other local schools, to attend a Year 10 Taster Day on Friday 1 July.
During the day, pupils will get the chance to explore different career/course options and either confirm the areas they are looking to progress into or discover new interests and abilities.
This has been organised as a school event but, unfortunately, we are unable to arrange a trip as our staffing levels are completely overstretched during that week.
This is a great opportunity for our Year 10 pupils, especially those hoping to apply to SCG next year, and it would be a shame for them to miss out.
For that reason, we have contacted Shrewsbury and they have kindly agreed that out pupils are welcome to attend by themselves. This means that they will need to make their own course bookings and travel arrangements to and from Shrewsbury.
You'll find further details about the Taster Day in the SCG event letter and the list of taster sessions available for pupils to choose from.
To make a booking, please refer to the instructions on the recent letter sent out to Year 10 parents.
