Mission

gcse historyIn science, our mission is to deliver an engaging curriculum that focuses on development of both science knowledge and practical skills. Our curriculum will enable students to learn within a clear and progressive framework, develop new skills through a variety of interesting contexts, develop a rich and deep science subject knowledge and understand what they are doing well and how they need to improve.

We are committed to raising standards of achievement and promoting a lifelong culture of learning through an education in science. These crucial aspects of our teaching will provide the knowledge and skills required for high achievement at GCSE. We also strive to build engagement with STEM and to raise levels of science capital amongst young people, through discussion of careers and linking lessons to real life world issues.

Aims

Our key aim in science is to fully engage all students in order to help them to identify and understand the science in everyday life and the world around them. We seek to provide learners with a variety of transferable skills, gained through our diverse science curriculum, that can be utilised in the workplace across a range of careers.

We endeavour to evaluate and develop our curriculum as an ongoing process, to ensure that the knowledge and skills of students are developed in a logical and incremental way, which is vital for a thorough understanding of complex scientific concepts. We seek to inspire, engage and support young people in their science education, including supporting students to understand the careers possibilities within and from STEM subjects.

Mission

gcse historyAt Bridgnorth Endowed School, we promote personal wellbeing and development through a comprehensive Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education programme.

PSHE education is the curriculum subject that gives young people the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live safe, healthy, productive lives and meet their full potential. A large part of this programme is Relationship, Sex and Health education (RSHE).

Aims

All pupils are timetabled to have one hour per week where they are taught PSHE topics (including RSHE) by their form tutor.

The PSHE curriculum has been carefully designed to meet the statutory requirements for relationship, sex and health education. To read and review our policy on RSHE, which includes details on parents' right to withdraw, please click here

In addition to the PSHE curriculum, pupils are regularly exposed to and given the opportunity to discuss relevant relationships, sex and health issues through our tutor time and house assembly programme.

Mission

gcse historySome pupils we serve are from non-religious backgrounds and may not explore the beliefs of others at home. Throughout their lives pupils will encounter people of different beliefs and cultures and therefore need to understand and empathise with the beliefs and practices of people from different religious backgrounds.

Therefore, we want to enable students to explain the key symbols, places of worship, holy books and practices of key world religions. We will help them to understand religious beliefs in the modern world and know how to be model citizens in promoting tolerance of others.

We will help them to know the importance of religious role models and significant individuals and to compare the beliefs of different religions and non-religious world views.

They need to understand broader religious concepts such as belief, freedom and rituals, festivals and celebrations and make comparisions between religions and to understand how religions have evolved over time.

Aims

Five out of every six people in the world today are religious. Religion shapes politics, art, culture, law, economics and international relations. Lack of religious literacy can lead to intolerance, hatred, sectarianism, racism, conflict and war.

We believe that providing the opportunity for our students to study and share their ideas about our local and international faith communities and to reflect on what it means to be a person of faith in the 21st century is key to the development of religious literacy.

The RE Department aims to inspire students with an appreciation of RE and its importance, using a variety of learning strategies. We want to instill a curiosity about faith, that will become a life-long love of the subject. We aim to ensure that RE provides students with a coherent knowledge of Britain’s multi-faith society. Through the study of RE students will learn more about the society we live in. We will enable them to explore the diversity of society and their own identity.

Mission

gcse historyOur mission in PE is for our students to enjoy and understand the importance of being active, not only for their current health and happiness, but also well into the future.

We want our students to be physically, mentally, and socially prepared to face the challenges and experiences of life beyond school. Physical education is the most effective means of providing our students with the skills, attitudes, values, knowledge and understanding for lifelong participation in society.

Aims

Throughout their journey in PE, we aim for students to:

  • Understand and appreciate a range of physical activities.
  • Develop confidence and competence in a wide range of physical skills which will promote confidence and self-belief.
  • Take part effectively on their own, with partners and in groups, in both competitive and cooperative situations.
  • Experience different roles – performer, official, leader and spectator.
  • Value the contribution of others, whatever their ability or social and cultural background.
  • Appreciate the importance of honesty and fair play, abiding by the rules and codes of conduct in all activities.
  • Value safety codes, learn to minimise risks, avoid danger and to learn how to react in emergency situations.
