We’re so proud of our nine Year 8 mentors who took the lead in delivering some vital presentations on a range of topics to Year 7 students on Friday.
They covered essential themes including rights and responsibilities, consent and health, gender stereotypes and language, social media and sexualisation, and pornography and active bystanders.
These sessions were the culmination of five sessions of dedicated training, provided by AXIS Counselling. Led by experienced trainers Vicki Ridgewell and Rachel Mainstone, the programme aimed to equip the Year 8 mentors with the knowledge and confidence to engage younger students in meaningful discussions.
The primary goal of the initiative is to encourage open conversations among young people, ensuring that they feel comfortable seeking support if they have been affected by any of the topics discussed.
By having older students lead these discussions, the school hopes to create a peer-led environment where Year 7 students feel more at ease discussing sensitive issues.
Well done to our mentors for their hard work and commitment to the project. Their efforts in tackling these important issues will certainly have a lasting impact on the school community.
