Year 7 Cricket Boys Fantastic at Frankwell

Year 7 boys’ cricket team at the Shropshire County Cricket Super 8s Tournament

Wednesday saw our Year 7 boys head off to Shrewsbury to take part in the Shropshire County Cricket Super 8s Tournament, hosted at Frankwell Cricket Club.

Progressing from their group stage undefeated, with victories over Charlton, Ludlow and William Brookes, Bridgnorth Endowed produced their best all-round display in the semi-final against Thomas Adams and comfortably secured a place in the final.

Meeting Ludlow once again, BES bowled well, restricting Ludlow to 50 but, most importantly, claiming 15 bowling points. Bridgnorth needed 16 off their final 10 deliveries.

James Axon, saving the best till last, hit two fours off the third and second to last ball. All they had to do then was see off the last ball for victory, however, should a wicket fall, Ludlow would be champions.

Just like the Ashes, this too was a tense finale. With the Ludlow field in close, Axon flicked the ball over the infield. Not content with defending the wicket they ran a single for good measure.

PE teacher, Mr Chase, said of the victory: “It was a lovely day and the boys have clearly been working hard at the cricket nets during lunchtimes and with their local cricket clubs. They demonstrated a real togetherness and backed each other during every delivery.”

“Credit to Ludlow for pushing them hard in the final, it could have easily found either way.”
