Praise for Year 10 Student’s Guitar Talents

Year 10 student and talented guitarist George Preece

Year 10 student, George Preece, says plenty of practice during lockdown as well as encouragement from his grandad helped him to hone his guitar skills.

The talented teen started playing at the age of eight, learning the basics from his grandad, John Davis, who performs as a live musician all over the UK and abroad.

Keen to develop his art, George began lessons with Wolverhampton-based heavy metal guitarist, singer-songwriter and record producer, Simon Lees.

After just six months of one-to-one tutoring from the 1998 winner of Guitarist of the Year, Covid hit and the lessons unfortunately had to stop.

Undeterred, George continued to teach himself at home and his dedication has paid off as he is now an accomplished guitarist with a string of live gigs under his belt.

His talents have also been recognised in school and George was recently appointed Leader of Music and Creative Arts, which he’ll fully take up in September.

The role will see him helping to organise the school show, assisting in the music department and supporting younger pupils in music and creative arts.

BES music teacher, Mr Teague, commented: “George is a gifted musician and has a natural ear for it. With plenty of regular practice, he could become very successful.”
