Darcey Skates to National Success

Darcey Gordon, who hopes to qualify for next year’s British Ice Skating Championship

Year 7 student, Darcey Gordon, has her sights set on qualifying for next year’s British Ice Skating Championships as she continues her elite training with the national squad.

Darcey took up skating as a hobby when she was just seven years old and started off by having a 30-minute lesson every Sunday.

It didn’t take long for her passion for the sport to grow and two years later, the National Ice Skating Association (NISA) asked her to join its Young Stars Development Programme, giving her the opportunity to train with Team GB at camps all over the country.

The dedicated eleven-year-old works exceptionally hard, training five days a week and regularly taking part in national competitions.

Proud mum, Katharine, said: “As well as the training camps, Darcey competes several times a year. This involves a lot of travelling as we go to events in Sheffield, London, Hull, Bradford and even Scotland.”

“Her main aim at the moment is to try to qualify for the British Championships, which would mean the world to her.”

Darcey’s next big competition will be in London next March.
