The overall winner of this year’s Languages Department Christmas card competition has been announced as Amelie from Year 9.
The theme of the competition was Christmas traditions from other countries and pupils were asked to research and design a card featuring a foreign language.
Amelie’s card was based on an Italian Christmas and depicts the world-famous Colosseum in Rome and La Befana, a witch who brings all good children treats on the morning of the Epiphany.
Frederika (Year 9) took second place with her French shop window design and Lizzie (Year 8) came third with her Japanese anime-style card. There was also a special mention for Concetta (Year 7), whose design was highly commended.
Head of Creative Arts, Mrs Tristham, together with Language teacher, Mrs Porter, had the challenging task of picking the winners and reported on how difficult the decision had been with so many excellent entries.
Mrs Porter said: “We received some brilliant card designs this year, beautifully depicting Christmas from around the world. Congratulations to Amelie on her winning design and well done to everyone who took part.”
