Bridgnorth Endowed Launches University Workshop Series

Year 10 students taking part in the UniTasterDays’ higher education workshop

The first of a series of university workshops was held for a group of Year 10 students during tutor time last Friday.

The session covered key facts about higher education, encouraging the students to explore the different types of courses available, the university application process and the importance of making post-16 option choices with university in mind.

Interactive techniques such as response clickers, group tasks and even catching a ball were used to engage with the students and bring the information to life.

Delivered to small group sizes, the format has been devised to make sure students have the opportunity to ask questions and join in with the activities.

To build on this, the students will go on to take part in a second workshop that deals with university fees and finance, and how they can already start to develop content for their personal statements.

The programme, funded by a National Lottery grant, is being facilitated by Jon Cheek from UniTasterDays, a company that runs aspirational university talks throughout the UK.

UniTasterDays is scheduled to work with all Year 10 students during January and February, before moving on to other year groups.

Jon reports: “The sessions are designed to ensure students make informed higher education decisions in the future, by introducing them early to the relevant facts about university, delivered in a fun and interactive way.”

“The students were a delight to work with – they already had a grasp of higher education from a regional university visit last year, which they were able to draw on when taking part in the workshop.”
