BAE Systems Roadshow Sparks Curiosity for Year 7

Miss Waterhouse creating electricity through pedal power at the BAE event

Electricity was in the air – quite literally – when Year 7 students were treated to a fantastic BAE Systems Roadshow on Wednesday. Delivered in collaboration with the RAF and the Royal Navy, this high-energy experience was designed to inspire curious minds and get students thinking about the science that powers our world.

Fully aligned to the National Curriculum, the Roadshow features a dynamic 50-minute performance packed with multimedia, hands-on demonstrations, and plenty of “wow” factor. Alongside the live event, schools receive free digital resources to help teachers build on the experience in the classroom.

This year’s theme was electricity, and from understanding what it is to exploring how we generate it, students were taken on a journey through circuits, energy sources, and even some hair-raising fun with a Van de Graaff generator.

A major highlight saw Form Tutor, Miss Waterhouse, cycle her way to glory, lighting up an LED windmill and its colourful animations through sheer pedal power – a moment that left the room buzzing.

Miss Edwards, the school’s Careers Officer, summed up the day perfectly: “The workshop was a great success, with our Year 7 students thoroughly enjoying the chance to explore complex scientific concepts through engaging visuals and interactive props.”

“We are always enthusiastic to run these events to inspire and inform our younger students, and encourage them to think about real-world applications and future career opportunities in STEM.”
