Year 9 Students Take On Six Summit Challenge

Three Bridgnorth Endowed School students are on top of the world after completing the gruelling Shropshire Six Summits Scouts Challenge over the early May Bank Holiday weekend.

Congratulations to Kaeden Whitehouse, Liam Ford and Oliver Hughes from Year 9, who took part in the three-day expedition that covers 36 miles and six of the highest hills in Shropshire.

Tackling two summits a day, the boys, together with their group, started with Corndon Hill on the Welsh/Shropshire border, then headed over to the spectacular Stiperstones ridge, before camping overnight.

Sunday involved going up and along The Long Mynd, then a major climb over Caer Caradoc Hill and a second night of camping. The last day began with Brown Clee, the highest of the Shropshire Hills, then Titterston Clee for the final ascent and the finish.

As well as the challenge of walking for three full days over some difficult terrain, the boys also had to navigate the route themselves, cook in the evenings and mornings, and set up and pack down camp.

Funds raised will go towards the expansion and improvement of the Bridgnorth Scouts Hut, which, once complete, will benefit all future scout members for years to come.

Kaeden’s mum, Samantha, said: “This was a rewarding but demanding challenge which took its toll on the boys, both physically and emotionally.”

“Myself and the other parents are extremely proud of the three of them, and Kaeden, Liam and Oliver are now very much looking forward to their DofE expedition in the summer.”
