Congratulations to Eva Spickernell from Year 9, who was nominated for an award at BBC Shropshire’s Make a Difference Awards held on Friday 30th September.

Eva, along with her friend Manon McAllister, received an invitation in recognition of the community newspaper they had written, produced and distributed during lockdown.

The idea behind the project was to write about all the happy things happening locally and further afield, to cheer people up at what was a very difficult time.

The girls’ inspiring story was taken up by the local newspaper and BBC Radio Shropshire, and went on to feature in Captain Sir Tom Moore’s ‘One Hundred Reasons to Hope’ book and the Independent newspaper’s 2020 Happy List.

In light of everything that Eva and Manon had achieved, they received a well-deserved nomination for the ‘Good Neighbour’ category of this year’s BBC Radio Shropshire’s Make a Difference Awards.

The girls attended the ceremony, which took place in the ballroom at the Anstice Hall in Madeley last Friday, and were highly commended for going above and beyond in their community.

Mum, Samantha, said: “The girls enjoyed a lovely afternoon, hearing lots of inspirational stories from all sorts of people doing amazing things in and for their local communities. We are very proud of them.”

Well done to Eva on her fantastic achievement.
