Sam Hirsch is the first Year 7 pupil, since the beginning of the school year, to achieve a Bronze Award for reading over a million words with the Accelerated Reader Programme.

In his enthusiasm, Sam ‘clocked up’ points and increased his word count by, not only reading plenty of books, but taking the online quizzes linked to the books, and achieving over 85% in each one.

Sam reports: “The reading programme really encourages me to read a lot more and also helps to widen my vocabulary.”

“I think everyone should give it a go because it’s fun and definitely worthwhile.”

Sam’s favourite books are the Percy Jackson adventure fiction series, written by American author Rick Riordan.

Bridgnorth Endowed School’s librarian, Mrs Peeler, comments: “We are very proud of Sam, who is now heading towards the two million word mark.”

“Accelerated Reader is a very effective programme, designed to build and encourage students to become lifelong readers and learners.”
