2019 is set to be an exciting year for Bridgnorth Endowed School Year 11 student, Mollie Penny, who has been selected, along with just 15 other players, for the England Under 16 Rounders Team.

PE teacher, Mrs Bills-Brown, spotted her talent back in 2016 and suggested she went for trials. The rest, as they say, is history as Mollie is now embarking on her third season with the national team.

This year’s training gets underway in February, with a weekend bootcamp in Sheffield to prepare the girls for the season ahead. The team is due to play a number of the country’s top independent schools and will face Wales in an international match early this summer.

An all-round sportswoman, Mollie also plays netball and has represented Shropshire in county cricket since the age of ten, recently being picked again for the U17s.

“Playing cricket for so long definitely helped me to do well in rounders and get into the national squad,” Mollie comments.

“I love playing for England as it’s a really friendly team and everyone’s so supportive, always cheering your name when you step into the batting area.”

On the back of her success, Mollie has accepted a place on the Elite Sports Pathway at Loughborough College and will start a Public and Uniformed Services Course in September.

In the future, she has ambitious plans to either join the Royal Navy or have a career in British Intelligence with MI5 or MI6.
