Rugby star Jake Francis, who joined the Worcester Warriors’ Development Programme

Year 10 student, Jake Francis, has been given the chance to follow his rugby dream after being selected for the prestigious Worcester Warriors Developing Player Programme.

The 14-year-old rugby star, who started out at Bridgnorth RFC at the age of nine, was recently spotted by the premiership rugby team and invited to train under the guidance of the best coaches in the area.

Launched in 2013, the programme was set up to find talented youngsters to become the next generation of first-team stars and has now expanded to six centres across the West Midlands.

Jake takes part in weekly training sessions at Shrewsbury College, and hopes to progress through the ranks to the Senior Academy at the age of 18 and go on to secure a professional career in rugby.

PE teacher, Mr McAdam, said: “Jake has demonstrated an excellent attitude in lessons and has shown that he is committed to becoming a better performer in all activities.”

“He has worked really hard on his fitness and thoroughly deserves this selection, which will give him access to some first-class coaching. We look forward to watching him develop his skills and game play.”
