After two years of pandemic disruption, the return to normal exams saw a strong set of GCSE results from Year 11 students at Bridgnorth Endowed School today.

Top grades were gained across the board and this summer’s school leavers are now poised to take up their places at local colleges, sixth forms and a range of apprenticeship opportunities.

Although King Edward’s in Stourbridge and Shrewsbury Colleges Group remained the most popular post-16 destinations with this year’s cohort, other choices included Telford College, Kidderminster College and Reaseheath College in Nantwich.

Among the successes at BES was star student, Ellie Conner, who achieved an impressive eight Grade 9s and one Grade 8, with plans to go into medicine after studying A Levels at King Edward’s.

A special mention also goes to William Ellison, who is due to study A Level Maths, Computer Science and Sociology at King Edward’s, after receiving a clutch of exceptional grades including six 9s.

Ben Everington chalked up high marks and will go on to study A Levels at Shrewsbury College, while classmate and top swimmer, Louise Jones, is heading to The Royal School in Wolverhampton to do A Levels and compete with their Elite Swim Squad.

Skye Morris scored top grades in all subjects and is off to Shrewsbury to study Maths and Science, and Chloe King, who also gained an excellent set of results, will take up her place at King Edward’s to study A Levels in Biology, English Literature and PE.

Other inspiring stories include Ollie Fowler who is going to Shrewsbury to do a Public Uniformed Services Level 3 Diploma with the aim of joining the army as a medic in the future and Jack Doughty will do the same course at Wolverhampton with ambitions of becoming a police officer.

Apprenticeships continue to be in demand and a number of students received offers for some exciting placements, including Harriet Child who has secured an apprenticeship in property management and Chloe Price who has already started her jockey apprenticeship.

Bridgnorth Endowed’s new headteacher, Mr Penn, comments: “I am extremely proud of our Year 11s. Their hard work and dedication has paid off and it’s wonderful to see so many students achieving grades that will open doors to a bright future.”

“I’d also like to acknowledge the teaching staff for their unwavering commitment and professionalism in navigating the smooth transition back to formal exams.”
