A former pupil’s netball talents that were picked up by a PE teacher at the school over four years’ ago, have culminated in a spectacular rise to sporting success.

Monica White’s netball career began at BES at the age of 11, when PE teacher, Mrs Bills-Brown, saw her potential and recommended that she should join Bridgnorth Netball Club.

During her first season at the club, Monica’s flair for the game became apparent very quickly and she went on to play for Shropshire County Netball.

After a couple of years at county level, she took the next step and trialled for the prestigious Severn Stars Nova Academy, which gave her the opportunity to train at its Wrekin College base.

Monica was soon offered a generous sports scholarship to Wrekin and, in January 2019, she moved schools to enable her to concentrate on her netball.

A personal high-point for the star player was being spotted by the England Head Coach and making it into the team for the All England U15 Finals held last summer.

The two-day competition, which took place at the University of Wolverhampton, involved all of the major Superleague teams and was even televised live on YouTube.

This season, Monica, now 16, has again been offered a place in the Severn Stars Nova Academy at Wrekin and has also managed to secure a place in the U17 Severn Stars squad.

Dedicated to improving her skills, she regularly puts in additional training at either the University of Worcester or University of Gloucestershire and has high hopes for her future in the sport.
