BES Pupil Competes in Top Ice Skating Event

A Bridgnorth Endowed School pupil competed against top ice skaters from around the world at a prestigious international competition held in London last week.

Darcey Gordon, from Year 7, took part in Skate Southern International and was placed tenth in her category, against 24 other girls.

The talented 12-year-old works exceptionally hard and trains five days a week at Telford Ice Rink under the direction of figure skating coach, Jason Bowman.

Training involves hours of practicing on the ice as well as off-ice conditioning and fitness drills to improve her strength and flexibility.

Darcey’s mum, Katherine, said: “I am extremely proud of Darcey – she works really hard and is very committed to the sport.”

“The next big competition is at Billingham in June, where she’ll continue to focus her efforts on trying to achieve her technical score for the qualifiers.”

Well done to Darcey! We wish her the best of luck for her next event and look forward to hearing how she gets on.
