Archie Makes Shropshire Debut

Archie who was selected for the U14 Shropshire School Boys

Academy football player, Archie Williams, has done it again with news of securing a place on the Shropshire School Boys U14s squad, following trials last month.

The talented Year 9 student, who plays in the West Bromwich Albion Academy, went up against around 100 boys, including other academy players, and went on to make the final cut for the team.

A week later and Archie made his debut against Gloucestershire, winning 6-2 in a National Cup home fixture at Lilleshall’s National Sports Centre.

Committed to his sport, Archie trains three times a week at the WBA Academy ground, one session being on day-release from school. He also represents Bridgnorth Endowed and leads the U14-side as captain.

PE teacher, Mr Chase, who encouraged Archie to attend the Shropshire trials, comments: “Archie is a gifted player, following in the footsteps of former Shropshire representatives Billy Wright, Gerry Hitchens and Joe Hart, who are some of the biggest names in English football.”

“We have recently had Beth Charnell, Talitta Chase and Zac Prior representing Shropshire, so it is really good to see Archie also flying the flag for Bridgnorth Endowed. We hope he will be a role model for other students to aspire to become Shropshire representatives.”

The best of luck to Archie who is looking forward to a trip to South Wales, where he will represent Shropshire in the next round of the competition.
