On Friday, 40 of our Year 8 students and 10 members of staff took on an incredible challenge as they climbed Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) in memory of Bridgnorth Endowed pupil, Will Davis.
It was an early start, with everyone leaving school by coach at 6am before arriving in North Wales to begin the climb along the Llanberis Path. Everyone knew it would be a challenge, but the mountain proved even tougher than many had expected.
The walk was around 9 miles in total, and for many of our pupils it was their first time climbing a mountain. As the day went on, tired legs, steep sections and the sheer length of the walk really began to take their toll. There were tears, moments when some thought they couldn’t carry on, and the need for plenty of encouragement from friends and staff along the way.
But every single pupil made it to the top.
Whenever things got difficult, everyone remembered why they were there. Will had recently climbed Yr Wyddfa with his family, and it was an experience he absolutely loved. Following in his footsteps felt like a very special way to remember him.
One of the loveliest parts of the day was meeting other people on the mountain. So many walkers stopped to ask our pupils why they were taking on the challenge. After hearing about Will and what the walk meant to our school, lots of them donated to the fundraiser there and then. We would like to say a huge thank you to all those who took the time to stop, chat and support our pupils – your kindness meant so much.
We’re also incredibly grateful for the support shown towards the Walk for Will fundraiser. Together, you’ve helped raise more than £3,000 towards creating a permanent memorial to Will here in school.
We’re so proud of every single pupil who took part. It wasn’t just a mountain they climbed – they showed determination, teamwork and resilience throughout the day, supporting each other every step of the way.
It was a tough challenge, but one that our Year 8s will never forget, and a truly fitting way to remember Will. Thank you to all those who have donated, supported and encouraged our pupils. Your generosity will help us create a special place where Will will always be remembered as part of our school community.
