Students Become ‘Word Millionaires’

This term’s AR winners (left to right): Evie Dornan, Chloe Slater and Annie Bosson

Three of our wonderful pupils have received awards for achieving the remarkable feat of reading more than one million words as part of the Accelerated Reader programme.

Topping the list was Evie Dornan from 7SC with an impressive 1,555,736 words, followed by 8SC’s Chloe Slater with 1,045,689 and Annie Bosson from 7VI with 1,038,733.

Evie particularly enjoys reading murder mysteries and her favourite author is Robin Stevens, while Chloe goes for horror books and Annie likes a wide range of genres.

Head of English, Mr Butler, said: “Congratulations to our top three readers, who have put in a lot of effort and shown a great deal of commitment to their reading.”

“The Accelerated Reader programme helps us target and challenge our students’ reading habits, although our main aim is to encourage them to develop a lifelong passion for reading.”

Evie, Chloe and Annie are all hoping for some new reads for Christmas and will continue with the quest to clock up as many words as possible.
