Rugby Stars Take Bridgnorth to Finals

Bridgnorth Rugby Club stars (left to right): Jake Francis, Tom Casswell & Louis Jordan

Year 11 students Tom Caswell, Jake Francis and Louis Jordan, who all play for Bridgnorth Rugby Club’s U16s, have been delighting spectators with their talent for the game throughout the season.

Last week, the team took on Kings Norton RFC in the semi-finals of the North Midlands Plate and the three produced outstanding performances to help secure a win.

Tom Casswell scored right at the start the game and Jake Francis followed up with a second try a few minutes later. Both tries were converted by Tom for a 14-0 lead, then Kings Norton scored a try of their own that failed with the conversion to leave the score 14-5.

Tom added three points from a penalty, ahead of a converted try from the opponent, and just before the break Bridgnorth hit back with another converted try.

In the second half, Bridgnorth pulled away with two tries in quick succession to take the score to 36-12. Louis Jordan was used to great effect with charging runs breaking the defensive line and allowing Bridgnorth to open up and chalk up another two tries, taking the final result to 57-19.

Tom’s impressive points haul for the match was 30 points, including a hat-trick of tries. The final is to be played next month with the venue yet to be decided.
