Pupils Undergo First Aid Training for DofE

Year 9 students putting their CPR skills into practice for their DofE Award training

Earlier this week, first aid training sessions were given to 72 Year 9 students ahead of their upcoming Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze Award practice and qualifying expeditions.

A team from St John Ambulance came into school to cover essential topics, including CPR, defibrillator training, how to help someone who’s choking, and caring for bleeds.

Each of the students were able to experience emergency care and learn what to do if one of their group members were to need assistance specific to DofE, such as bites, stings, and tics.

An exciting part of the training came when students were invited to explore the ambulance, with a few being selected to be strapped into the stretcher and loaded into the back.

Some also got the opportunity to try to run with one of the heaviest pieces of equipment the ambulance crew carry, with a bag almost the size of most of the students.

Miss Eyre, who leads the DofE programme at Bridgnorth Endowed School, said: “We would like to say a big thank you to St John Ambulance for offering their time to train our students. This will now be an integral part of our DofE training for all students in the future.”
