National Skating Champs Within Reach

Darcey Gordon skating for a place in the upcoming qualifiers

Year 10 student and ice skating star, Darcey Gordon, has plenty to celebrate, after competing in the North East Figure Skating Open in Billingham last week.

Not only did she bag a new personal best, but also achieved her technical and component score, which takes her to the upcoming qualifiers in Sheffield.

Darcey took up skating as a hobby when she was just seven years old and began with a 30-minute lesson every Sunday.

Her talent for the sport soon flourished and, two years later, the National Ice Skating Association invited her to join its Young Stars Programme, giving her the opportunity to train with Team GB all over the country.

Several years on and the dedicated teenager continues works exceptionally hard, training five days a week and regularly taking part in competitions around the UK.

Mum, Katharine, said: “I’m so proud of Darcey’s achievements. She puts in an incredible amount of work work and her scores have led her to pass her next level as an Intermediate. Her skating is going from strength to strength and we really appreciate how much the school supports her with her sport.”

Good luck to Darcey, who’s next big competition will be the March Qualifier for the British Championships.
