Former Bridgnorth Endowed School head girl, Holly Tyrls, was recently honoured at the Alan Golden Youth Awards, held at The Shakespeare Inn on Friday 20th September.

The annual Bridgnorth Lions Club awards, named after a past member who served as a headteacher in the town, are given to local young people who have made a difference in the community.

Of the five candidates that were nominated, Holly was announced as this year’s joint winner with Ben Twigg and described as a “fantastic role model” for other students and a “great ambassador” for the school.

The school’s Head of Creative Arts and PE, Mrs Tristham, reports: “I nominated Holly, not only for how well she’d taken on the role of head girl, but also for her outstanding work with younger pupils in the school who, for whatever reason, were finding it difficult to cope with secondary school life.”

“Despite her busy work schedule, studying for three A Levels and carrying out her duties as head girl, Holly always made time to meet up with these pupils to listen to their concerns and give them plenty of support and reassurance.”

The competition was judged by Shropshire Councillor, Les Winwood, who presented Holly and Ben with a shield and a cheque for £100, and praised the youngsters for their efforts, especially their willingness to help others.
