Changes to Post-16 Admissions Arrangements Amid Covid-19 Outbreak

Shrewsbury Colleges Group, Welsh Bridge Campus

Following the decision to cancel this summer’s exams amid the coronavirus outbreak, the priority now is to ensure those affected can move on as planned to the next stage of their lives.

Ofqual is currently working out the best way to calculate fair assessment grades for students and is due to announce details of the process and timetable next week.

In the meantime, the latest information on how some local colleges and sixth forms have adapted their admissions arrangements can be found below.

The Bridgnorth Sixth Form

The Bridgnorth Sixth Form is still accepting applications from students wanting to start courses this September. Interested students, wishing to consider their local option can apply through this link →

Any student who applies will be personally contacted for a telephone discussion about choices and options. This is to ensure that they get the best match for their interests and skills and also for the Bridgnorth Sixth Form to begin the process of getting to know the student and their academic needs and aspirations.

Any student who was due to attend an interview for a place will now receive an interview via telephone. The college will contact you to arrange times.

King Edwards VI College

Applications to King Edwards VI College for 2020 entry are now closed. The portal will re-open following results day for students who have yet to apply.

Telford College

If you’ve already received an offer from Telford College, your place for this September is secure and the college will update you over the coming weeks.

If you still wish to apply for a place, you can submit an online application at www.telfordcollege.ac.uk/apply. Interviews will be conducted over the telephone – you can call 01952 642237 for more details.

In the absence of their Twilight Tasters, which include the option for an interview, the college will be contacting prospective students to offer them a telephone interview.

The next open event is due to take place on Wednesday 24th June. If you registered for the March open event, you will be invited to attend the open event in June if it goes ahead. The Twilight Tasters are yet to be rescheduled. Please check the Telford College website for updates on these events.

Kidderminster College

Kidderminster College is still doing interviews. When you apply via their website, you will receive an email from the Admissions Team to organise a telephone interview. Apply here →

For all application related questions, please contact the Admissions Team on: admissions@kidderminster.ac.uk.

City of Wolverhampton College

You can still apply to study at the City of Wolverhampton College. Once you have submitted your application, you will receive an email confirming that it has been received. Apply here →

Following the guidance from Public Health England, the college won’t be conducting face-to-face interviews. Instead, you’ll get a call from one of their interviewing tutors who will discuss your course choice(s) and provide guidance to ensure you make the right decision for your future career. You will then receive an offer on the course you choose for September 2020.

Although exams and assessments have been suspended, there’s no need to worry about your place at the college as they will work with you to ensure your next stage in education is right for you.

Dudley College

Dudley College of Technology will be offering places to any students who apply for admission to study in the new academic year, which starts in September 2020. Apply here →

The applications that are already in their system and any that follow, will not require a face-to-face interview. All applicants will receive a conditional offer of a place by letter/email.

The college is personally contacting all students who are currently in the process of applying to reassure them that there will be a place for them in September.

Due to the uncertainty of how grading decisions will be made, all offers are conditional based on the existing published entry criteria set out for each course.
