BES Hosts Highley Primary DT Workshops

Year 3 and 4 pupils from Highley Primary School creating designs using CAD software

Bridgnorth Endowed School recently welcomed Key Stage 2 pupils from Highley Primary for a series of hands-on design technology workshops organised over two weeks.

The mixed groups of Year 3 and 4 students got the chance to experiment with computer-aided design software and were shown how a design is created on the laser cutter.

The students then took designs they had created prior to the workshops and decorated ready-made laser cut gingerbread boxes with different templates, drawings and Christmas patterned paper to create an individual end product.

Supported by our Year 9 BES Boy Ambassadors, the younger pupils, who thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Bridgnorth Endowed, left with their gingerbread boxes in hand and big smiles on their faces.

The DT workshops form part of Bridgnorth Endowed’s primary school engagement initiative, which has previously included cooking lessons, weekly student-led reading sessions and creative arts workshops.

Assistant Headteacher, Mrs Tristham, who leads the initiative comments: “Our work with local primary schools has been very successful and we enjoy welcoming younger pupils into BES, where they can get to know us better and share our fantastic facilities. It’s also a great opportunity for our students to work with younger children to develop useful skills and step up to act as positive role models.”
