A group of 30 Year 9 and 10 students embarked on an exciting school trip to London last week to watch Dear England, James Graham’s hit play at the National Theatre.
The show, which tells the story of the England men’s football team under Gareth Southgate, gripped students with its brilliant performances and powerful messages about identity, pressure, and bouncing back from setbacks.
The dynamic movement and clever choreography brought the energy and drama of the football pitch to life, making the production even more engaging and memorable for the audience.
Staff on the trip were full of praise for the play and how it connected with the students. “It was such a great experience for them to see live theatre like this and think about the bigger issues it raised beyond football,” said Headteacher Mr Penn.
“We organised the trip hoping the football theme might encourage students who wouldn’t normally go to the theatre to give it a try, and it definitely worked. It was wonderful to see them completely absorbed in the show and coming away inspired and buzzing about the its key messages and standout moments.”
The trip forms part of the school’s ongoing commitment to enriching students’ cultural education, helping them see things from different perspectives, learn about a variety of themes, and build a broader, more well-rounded view of the world.
Described as a ‘back-of-the-net winner’, Dear England delivered a fantastic day out for football fans and theatre lovers alike – a show to remember, without a doubt.
