Mission

gcse historyOur mission in art is to provide an environment in which learners are happy and equipped to take risks, ask themselves questions about their creative journey and respond positively to both staff and peers.

As each stage of a creative learning journey develops, it incorporates a deeper understanding of prior learning. Students’ progress is documented through sketchbooks along with checklists for key concepts and ideas.

We encourage conversation, discussion, and critique about the learners’ own work and about the work of artists and designers chosen for each topic.

This embeds and extends our learners’ knowledge of artistic concepts and principles along with appropriate subject language for discussing and annotating works of art.

Students in all year’s study culturally diverse artists and artwork to broaden understanding and experience.

Aims

We aim to create the best artists by challenging learners to think, create and develop a visual understanding by demonstrating practical skills in a range of areas.

We do this by teaching learners to become visually literate, so they can read, interpret, and critically respond to the work of other practitioners. This is a knowledge rich curriculum embedded with developing skills, knowledge of artists and styles which enables students to explore and develop ideas for their own work.

Students will aim to continually explore and develop deeper understanding and use of the formal elements, so they can achieve the best quality outcomes.
