Christmas Carol Theatre Trip

Bridgnorth Endowed students at the RSC production of A Christmas Carol

Christmas came early for pupils from Bridgnorth Endowed who, last night, went on a school trip to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford to watch Charles Dickens’ much-loved classic, A Christmas Carol.

Year 8 English students and Year 11s studying GCSE drama were treated to a spectacular production of the popular festive tale, with Adrian Edmondson taking on the lead role of Ebenezer Scrooge.

Throughout the story, he demonstrated the many different layers of Scrooge’s misery, madness and of course, love, effortlessly holding the audience in the palm of his hand.

The ghosts also exuded a great deal presence, as well as some good old-fashioned jump starts and, as an interesting plot device, Dickens himself played a part, sharing his backstory of shame and poverty in Victorian London.

A fully inclusive production, the stellar cast featured some talented actors with additional needs, playing the role of Tiny Tim and other members of the Cratchit and Fezziwig families.

Head of English, Mr Butler, commented: “Students were entranced by this amazing piece of theatre and, after the upheaval of the last few years, it was genuinely life-affirming to see their reaction.”

“Adrian Edmondson was born to play the part of Scrooge and, even from the upper circle, the twinkle in his eye at the Bob Cratchit pay rise scene was mesmerising. This production was an absolute delight.”
