Our Year 11 students got a real taste of the future this week as they explored an incredible range of careers during an inspiring in-school Careers Event on Tuesday. The day was packed with hands-on experiences, expert talks, and exciting demonstrations from professionals across a variety of industries.
Science enthusiasts were fascinated by the talk from Ms Stanley, our Science Teacher, who drew on her background in forensic science to describe everything from investigating crime scenes to appearing as an expert witness in high-profile cases.
Those interested in engineering got to explore apprenticeship opportunities with Bridgnorth Aluminium, learning about the skills involved, the wide range of roles in the industry, and even the chance to join the on-site fire and rescue team.
The event also featured a live barbering workshop led by Nick and Jay from Bull & Co, who demonstrated professional cutting techniques and discussed the creative and business sides of working in the barbering industry.
Aspiring lawyers heard from former BES student and Lanyon Bowdler partner, Lucy Speed, who shared her journey into law and stories from some of her most challenging cases.

In the realm of finance, Alison Cox from Hexagon Metrology offered a behind-the-scenes look at the fast-paced financial industry and the varied career paths open to those interested in accounting.
Creatively minded pupils were inspired by Gem Medley from ReachOut Arts, who showed how imagination and a love for performance can be transformed into a rewarding career through theatre, workshops, and community projects.
Kaye Heseltine of Kaye H Designs introduced pupils to the field of graphic design, challenging them with a branding activity that gave them a taste of real-world design thinking.
Sustainability took centre stage as Mrs Gough highlighted developments in modern farming and agriculture, focusing on innovative and environmentally responsible practices.
Sports fans were put through their paces by the Shrewsbury Town Foundation, who led practical sessions and discussed pathways in sports coaching, fitness, and development.

Adding a sweet touch to the day, former BES student Sienna Turner spoke about her Business Administration Apprenticeship with local chocolatier ChocTilly, complete with a chocolate-making demonstration – and a few tasty samples.
Students considering the armed forces discovered the wide variety of roles available through Army Careers, including leadership, logistics, technical, and specialist positions.
Throughout the day, Telford College showcased their Mobile Training Unit (MTU), fully equipped with advanced medical technology, where pupils had the chance to try out diagnostic tools and patient-care techniques firsthand.
Reflecting on the event, Careers Lead, Miss Edwards, said: “A huge thank you to everyone who took the time to share their expertise with our students. The day was a fantastic success and provided Year 11s with valuable insights into the world of work. It has inspired them to think big and plan for their futures with confidence.”
