Congratulations to Year 7 student, Abi Derricutt, who won her category at the English Vaulting Championship in Warwickshire at the weekend. The British Equestrian Vaulting event, held at the Moreton Morrell, brought together some of the best young vaulters from across the country.
Abi, who trains with the Welsh Border Vaulters, competed in the Level 1B category, performing both a compulsory and freestyle routine on horse, Patch. Her brilliant performance saw her take first place, making her number one in the UK for her category.
Abi has been vaulting since she was six, after being inspired by her sister’s friend, and she loves that it brings together her two passions – gymnastics and horses. As well as vaulting, she also enjoys gymnastics at Edge Gymnastics, dancing at the Jodie Leigh School of Dance, and horse riding when she can find the time.
This fantastic win means Abi has qualified for the British Equestrian Championships in Cheshire on 18th/19th October, where she’ll be aiming to go one better than last year’s impressive third-place finish.
Well done, Abi – we’re all cheering you on for the nationals next month!
