Our aim is to inspire a love of languages and an appreciation for different cultures. We endeavour to broaden horizons and highlight the many advantages of being globally aware and culturally sensitive. At Bridgnorth Endowed School, we teach both French and Spanish up to Year 9 and, in line with the English Baccalaureate (EBacc), we strongly encourage our young people to study a language at GCSE. We use different teaching methods to actively engage students, with the emphasis on literacy, communication and confidence building through role play, group work and other targeted activities. They learn how to use vocabulary within a range of commonly-used topic areas, such as school, family, sports, hobbies and the weather, give personal information and begin to express their opinions. There are also a number of enriching extra-curricular opportunities to help them to develop language skills outside the classroom, including an annual trip to France and foreign language plays performed in school.
