Our approach to History is to encourage students to think deeply about where they have come from and understand events that have shaped their lives.

We strive to make the subject fun and engaging by using a variety of resources, activities and practical lessons to bring certain concepts to life.

Students learn key skills, starting with how to research and investigate topics, and later developing the ability to examine and evaluate evidence.

They get to explore different historical points of view and understand the need to question the narrative and challenge the various interpretations.

Throughout the year, students also get the opportunity to extend their learning beyond the classroom, through visits and residential trips to a number of relevant sites.

Topics include:

  • The Romans
  • The Norman Invasion
  • Castle architecture and location
  • Plantagenets
  • The Wars of the Roses
  • The Tudors
