Our key aim is to engage, inspire and challenge our students, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art.

In Year 7, pupils are introduced to a broad range of artistic techniques, materials, artists and themes, which set the foundations for them to become effective artists and creative thinkers.

They get the chance to work with both 2D and 3D formats and explore art forms, including drawing, painting, printing, collage and sculpture.

There are a number of topics on the curriculum, each involving practical tasks, discussion, group work and special projects, with the aim of improving skills and developing an appreciation for Art.

We are committed to nurturing resilient, ambitious and curious students who will embed creativity in their own futures, careers and everyday life.

Topics include:

  • Formal elements in art
  • Different art mediums
  • Study of artists, craftspeople and designers
  • Art and art movements from our own and other cultures
  • Art history
  • Working in the style of a chosen artist
  • Portraits
