Year 9 Bridgnorth Aluminium Trip

Year 9 BES students outside the Bridgnorth Aluminium facility ahead of their visit

A group of ten Year 9 pupils with a special interest in engineering and manufacturing careers, went on a visit to Bridgnorth Aluminium last Tuesday.

Keen to attract new talent, the local manufacturer approached the school to invite students to find out more about the options available to them in this sector.

The morning began with a meet and greet session in the boardroom, where the students were given a short induction and the chance to meet the executive team.

Next on the agenda, they were taken on a tour of the world-class facility, which boasts a casthouse, rolling mill, two litho centres, a multi-slitting line and finishing lines, across a 74-acre site.

To provide further insight into possible careers at the company, a top team of managers, apprentices and graduates gave the students an informative presentation with the opportunity to ask questions.

The company runs a robust apprenticeship programme, now through its newly-formed BAL Academy, and engages with students with the aim of creating engineers of the future.

Employing more than 450 people, the Bridgnorth-based firm produces aluminium sheet that is sold around the world in the printing, packaging, electrical and automotive sectors.

Design and Technology teacher, Mr James, who led the trip, said: “A big thank you to Bridgnorth Aluminium for showing us around their superb facility.”

“We were all very impressed with the tour, and the positive feedback from the students was amazing.”
