Vital supplies for Ukrainian refugees donated by BES parents<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Bridgnorth Endowed School responded to the call to help refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine by launching an appeal for donations of much-needed supplies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parents were invited to send in essentials, such as batteries, sleeping bags, torches and baby items, to fill a shopping trolley by the end of this week and the response has been tremendous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The school\u2019s reception area is now full of donations that will be taken up to Bridgnorth\u2019s central collection point at the Castle Hall tomorrow morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On top of the appeal, there\u2019s been plenty of discussion about the situation in Ukraine during tutor times and students have been keen to find ways to offer their support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 8 pupil, Isla Powell-Bevan, was so moved by the news footage of Ukrainian families in distress that she decided to make and sell earrings for the DEC Ukraine Appeal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A big arts-and-crafts fan, the 13-year-old, with her mum\u2019s support, had been making earrings and keyrings under her Clayz Craze brand well before the crisis, but decided to use her skills to help raise vital funds for Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Handcrafted from polymer clay, the special edition earrings are made in the colours of the Ukrainian flag and come with a simple \u2018No War\u2019 message.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So far, Isla has made around 50 pairs of earrings for her fundraising campaign and sells them for \u00a32 in the Study Centre at school and through her social media pages, donating 50% of each sale to the crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over half of the earrings have already sold and she\u2019s just added a brand-new blue and yellow keyring to the range, which she hopes will be even more popular.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Senior leader, Mrs Tristham, said: \u201cWe\u2019d like to thank everyone who donated essential items to our appeal and would like to congratulate Isla on using her initiative to make a difference.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
