{"id":946,"date":"2018-11-28T17:36:22","date_gmt":"2018-11-28T17:36:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/?p=946"},"modified":"2019-07-15T14:29:10","modified_gmt":"2019-07-15T13:29:10","slug":"mrs-rhodes-to-make-marathon-debut","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/mrs-rhodes-to-make-marathon-debut\/","title":{"rendered":"Mrs Rhodes to Make Marathon Debut"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_947\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-947\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-947 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Mrs_Rhodes.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"346\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Mrs_Rhodes.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Mrs_Rhodes-300x208.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-947\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Art teacher, Mrs Louise Rhodes<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Next April, Bridgnorth Endowed School art teacher, Mrs Louise Rhodes will be running 26.2 gruelling miles in the 39th London Marathon.<\/p>\n<p>Describing herself as &#8216;not a typically sporty person&#8217;, Mrs Rhodes caught the running bug several years ago when her sister persuaded her to join the Bridgnorth Running Club.<\/p>\n<p>Having a family meant she needed to put her love of running on the back-burner until last year, when she took part in a campaign to run every day throughout January.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Rhodes surprised herself and got up to a 10-mile run fairly quickly and, by the end of the month, she\u2019d completed a half marathon distance.<\/p>\n<p>Determined to push herself, she signed up for some local 10K runs and did extremely well.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Rhodes comments: \u201cIt\u2019s definitely a case of mind over matter for me and I see every run as an achievement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With success under her belt, Mrs Rhodes&#8217; sister encouraged her to join her in signing up for the London Marathon and, as getting a place is notoriously difficult, she tentatively agreed to go along with it.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, she took part in the Shrewsbury Half Marathon, and found it particularly difficult due to the hilly terrain.<\/p>\n<p>With thoughts of \u2018don\u2019t let it be me\u2019 on her mind, Mrs Rhodes anxiously waited for her London Marathon rejection letter but nothing appeared. One day, when checking the event website for her status, she was shocked to see a bib number come up.<\/p>\n<p>Already in training for the event, and hoping for a time of\u00a0between 5 and 5\u00bd hours, she fits in 2-3 runs a week around family and work.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Rhodes has been an art teacher at Bridgnorth Endowed for four years, which brought her full circle after having been a pupil at the school just over 20 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>When in the sixth form, she was selected to take part in an arts exchange to the Punjab in India, where she developed her passion for art, as well as travel.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-949\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Mrs_Rhodes2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"346\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Mrs_Rhodes2.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Mrs_Rhodes2-217x300.jpg 217w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/>After her A Levels, during a gap year in Zambia, Mrs Rhodes taught in an international school, and knew then that she wanted to teach.<\/p>\n<p>As a member of the art department, she gets to be involved in a whole variety of exciting projects, such as the Bridgnorth Statue Trail, earlier this year, and a proposed mural on the wall at the St Leonard\u2019s School swimming pool that&#8217;s coming up soon.<\/p>\n<p>In the new year, however, her marathon training programme will start in earnest and, to test her progress, she\u2019ll also be taking part in the London Landmarks Half Marathon in March.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Rhodes concludes: \u201cThis is something I would never have thought possible and it will be my biggest personal challenge to date.
