{"id":9001,"date":"2021-11-26T10:16:48","date_gmt":"2021-11-26T10:16:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/?p=9001"},"modified":"2021-11-26T10:32:41","modified_gmt":"2021-11-26T10:32:41","slug":"bes-hosts-lgbt-workshops","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/bes-hosts-lgbt-workshops\/","title":{"rendered":"BES Hosts LGBT+ Workshops"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-image alignright\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"346\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/lgbt-talk.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9002\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/lgbt-talk.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/lgbt-talk-300x208.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>A national LGBT+ charity, specifically aimed at young people, ran two compelling virtual workshops for all year groups at Bridgnorth Endowed yesterday morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Working with schools across the UK, Just Like Us has one clear and important mission \u2013 to empower young people to champion LGBT+ equality through talks and education programmes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two young adult ambassadors from the charity delivered the session and, as a way to connect with the pupils in a powerful way, they shared their own personal stories about what it\u2019s like to grow up LGBT+ today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They spoke honestly about why these issues matter in school and what everyone can do to make the lives of LGBT+ people better by being a &#8216;great ally&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The talk covered all the bases, from what LGBT+ means and the negative impact of homophobia, biphobia and transphobia, to famous LGBT+ role models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Safeguarding Manager, Mrs Mitchell, said: \u201cThe workshops provided an excellent platform to open up the discussion with our pupils in an open, honest and supportive way.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe volunteers\u2019 personal stories were inspiring and will hopefully help to reassure pupils who are questioning their sexuality or gender.
