{"id":8472,"date":"2021-10-15T14:43:56","date_gmt":"2021-10-15T13:43:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/?p=8472"},"modified":"2021-11-02T11:09:36","modified_gmt":"2021-11-02T11:09:36","slug":"west-brom-signs-year-7s-archie-williams","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/west-brom-signs-year-7s-archie-williams\/","title":{"rendered":"West Brom Signs Year 7&#8217;s Archie Williams"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-image alignright\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Archie-W.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8473\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Archie-W.jpg 375w, https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Archie-W-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 375px) 100vw, 375px\" \/><figcaption>Year 7 pupil, Archie Williams, who plays for the WBA Academy<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>West Bromwich Albion, like every professional football club, is always on the lookout for the stars of tomorrow and Bridgnorth Endowed student, Archie Williams, has just been signed as a member of the U12\u2019s academy team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The talented 12-year-old, who has been with the WBA Academy for six years, will step up to embark on an intensive programme, which includes three nights of training a week and games on Sundays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Archie\u2019s football career began at just five years-old, when he joined local team, Bridgnorth Spartans, and signed up for a football camp at St Leonard\u2019s School during the summer holidays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His talent was obvious from the start and he was picked for a team that played over in Wolverhampton, where he was scouted by Wolves and given the opportunity to train with them for six months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the age of six, Archie was playing regularly for Wolves and Spartans and, during a game in Wolverhampton, was spotted by both Birmingham City and West Bromwich Albion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He went on to sign for the Albion, where he\u2019s been ever since, and the recent move to the U12s marks a major step forward as the level of commitment gets significantly more serious at this stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Academy\u2019s Assistant Education Officer, Kierenne Baldwin, recently contacted the school and said: \u201cI am very proud to tell you your pupil Archie Williams is a signed member of our U12\u2019s team.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image alignleft\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"346\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/U12-boys.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8146\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/U12-boys.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/U12-boys-300x208.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><figcaption>Front row, second from left: Archie pictured with his Year 7 teammates in BES colours<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe like to work closely with the player, parents, school and club to support development of the pupil both from a football and life skills perspective without it hindering their education in any way.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Archie, who also plays for the school, has already produced some top performances for the BES Year 7 team, scoring a staggering nine goals in just two matches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PE teacher, Mr Chase, said: \u201cArchie is one of the most natural finishers I&#8217;ve ever seen in school football. He really is a tremendous talent and both Bridgnorth Endowed and the local community are very lucky to have him.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe is extremely level-headed and knows that to establish a future in football is not a given and further hard work and sacrifice is required to make it in the professional game.
