For greater insight, the group will visit the Sanctuary of Asklepios at Epidaurus, with its temples and hospital buildings devoted to the Greek god of healing.<\/p>\n<p>The syllabus also covers \u2018the Persians\u2019 and students will make a stop at the historic site of the Battle of Marathon, Persia\u2019s first attempt to conquer Greece, which took place in 490 BC. The tour will go on to include visits to other significant battle grounds, such as Thermopylae, Salamis and Plataea.<\/p>\n<p>A trip to Greece would not be complete without experiencing the Acropolis in Athens and a guided tour of Olympia, featuring the immense Temple of Zeus and the location of the first recorded Olympic Games in 776 BC.<\/p>\n<p>History is a popular course at the school and Bridgnorth Endowed is just one of a handful of Shropshire schools to offer ancient history, as well as history, at GCSE.<\/p>\n<p>The two courses contribute to the English Baccalaureate (EBacc) and as ancient history is a Classics subject, along with Latin and Greek, students are able to study one or both together.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tomorrow, a group of 29 enthusiastic history and ancient history GCSE students will be heading off on an exciting trip to Greece, led by teachers, Mr Clayton, Mr Nicholls and Mrs Summerhayes.
