The winning ‘Hidden heart’ entry by Eva Spickernell in Year 7<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Year 7 student, Eva Spickernell, has been named as the winner of the Valentine\u2019s Bake Off, after an intense competition where students and staff baked at home, then sent in photos of their creations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judging the contest was English teacher, Miss Bradburn, who took on the task of scoring the student entries, and food teacher, Mrs Lowden, who decided on the staff bakes. After much deliberation, the final results were announced yesterday afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About Eva\u2019s winning \u2018hidden heart\u2019 ganache cake, Miss Bradburn commented: \u201cI liked the design on top and the use of different ingredients for decoration. I also think the hidden design shows skill and attention to detail. A clever and cleanly executed surprise.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Second place went to the cherry sponge cake with homemade chocolates by Joshua Rees (Year 7), who was praised for his \u201cuse of different icing techniques\u201d, and Henry Rhodes (Year 7) came third with his red buttercream sponge cake that \u201cexpressed the theme really well and demonstrated a good use of colour.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were also some fantastic entries from staff \u2013 the top spot going to Mrs Miller for her pink heart cake with its \u201cattractive, topical design\u201d. Mrs Porter clinched second place for her flapjack and was commended for her \u201cgood piping skills\u201d, whilst Miss Bradburn came in third with her “well executed” brownie and chocolate heart cake combo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well done to all for taking part and helping to spread some extra sweetness and love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
