{"id":4751,"date":"2020-03-04T09:32:39","date_gmt":"2020-03-04T09:32:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/?p=4751"},"modified":"2020-03-04T10:04:59","modified_gmt":"2020-03-04T10:04:59","slug":"stem-challenge-to-inspire-next-generation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/stem-challenge-to-inspire-next-generation\/","title":{"rendered":"STEM Challenge to Inspire Next Generation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-image alignright\"><figure class=\"alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"346\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/STEM1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4752\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/STEM1.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/STEM1-300x208.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><figcaption>Bridgnorth Endowed School students meet Preetam Kaur from Bridgnorth Aluminium<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Young innovators from Bridgnorth Endowed School recently met up with their newly-appointed industry mentor to kick start an exciting project for the 2020 Shropshire Star STEM Schools Challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The team of six students put their heads together during a\nfocus session with Bridgnorth Aluminium Development Technologist, Preetam Kaur,\nto begin work on creating a product in line with this year\u2019s brief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Using science, technology, engineering and maths, the participating\nschools are tasked with designing and building something that has a positive\nimpact on people&#8217;s emotional wellbeing and mental health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Will Ellison, Will Halliwell, Ben Greenwood, Brad Driver, James Whitmore and James Pennington, all from Year 9, have taken on the challenge and will demonstrate their product at a presentation event in early July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Between now and July, Preetam will regularly visit the school to mentor the group and share her impressive STEM credentials, which include a first class degree in engineering and several years of technical experience at global rolled aluminium products supplier, Bridgnorth Aluminium. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"color:#ab162b\" class=\"has-text-color has-medium-font-size\"><strong>The Future is STEM<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As an engineering and technology-intensive company, Bridgnorth Aluminium understands the importance of encouraging student interest in STEM subjects through projects like the STEM Schools Challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regarding the partnership, the company\u2019s sales and marketing manager, Adrian Musgrave, said: \u201cBridgnorth Aluminium is pleased to be partnering with Bridgnorth Endowed School for the upcoming challenge. In the process, students also develop\ninvaluable lifelong skills, such as teamwork and innovation, which will serve\nthem well in any career \u2013 STEM or otherwise.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thirteen schools from around the county are taking part in the challenge and a long list of high profile businesses and organisations are enthusiastically backing the project, either as mentors or sponsors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Awards up for grabs include best presentation, best operating model, best teamwork, best work plan, best entrepreneurial team, business champion and people\u2019s choice, as well as the overall winner. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Final judging will take place at the Marches Centre of Manufacturing &amp; Technology in Bridgnorth on 3rd July, 2020.
