{"id":4225,"date":"2020-01-16T15:53:12","date_gmt":"2020-01-16T15:53:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/?p=4225"},"modified":"2020-01-16T15:58:01","modified_gmt":"2020-01-16T15:58:01","slug":"sixth-form-students-return-for-awards-event","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/sixth-form-students-return-for-awards-event\/","title":{"rendered":"Sixth Form Students Return for Awards Event"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-image alignright\"><figure class=\"alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"346\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/6th-form-awards.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4226\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/6th-form-awards.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/6th-form-awards-300x208.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><figcaption>Left to right: Georgia Ballantyne, Meg Gardener and Hannah Yates<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Former sixth form students of Bridgnorth Endowed School were invited to attend an evening of celebration for their academic and personal achievements during their time in the sixth form.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The annual event was held in school on Wednesday 8th January, and saw students returning to pick up their A Level and BTEC certificates from last summer, along with some other very special awards.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A number of students, nominated by the heads of department, were chosen to receive endowment prizes in recognition of their outstanding performance or commitment to a subject or the school.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The prizes, which date back many years, originate from bequests or donations by individuals who\u2019ve had a particularly close association with the school, including past supporters, governors, teachers and parents.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Joel Clayton, currently at Aberystwyth University studying for a degree in English and Creative Writing, was presented with the JWC Bowers Prize for History, an award set up by former Bridgnorth mayor and chair of governors, Alderman Bowers.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The EA Nelson Prize for Service to the School went to last year\u2019s head girl, Holly Tyrls, not only for how well she\u2019d taken on the role of head girl, but also for her outstanding work supporting younger pupils struggling to cope with secondary school life.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image alignleft\"><figure class=\"alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"346\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/HollyT.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4228\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/HollyT.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/HollyT-300x208.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><figcaption><em>Former head girl Holly Tyrls \u2013 winner of the EA Nelson Prize for Service to the School<\/em> <\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Hannah Yates, who scooped the top grade in English and is now studying psychology at the University of Worcester, won the Elizabeth Tyler English Prize, an award established by a retired teacher of English renowned for championing high standards in the subject.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event was a triumph and students, who have now gone their separate ways, thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to get together again, along with parents and staff, to celebrate their accomplishments.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Head of Sixth Form, Mrs Whitmore, said: \u201cIt was lovely to see last year\u2019s sixth formers return for such a wonderful occasion.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The evening was a true celebration of their time at Bridgnorth Endowed, and congratulations go to all of our students on their exam results and individual awards.
