{"id":3105,"date":"2019-09-04T15:52:17","date_gmt":"2019-09-04T14:52:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/?p=3105"},"modified":"2019-09-04T15:52:17","modified_gmt":"2019-09-04T14:52:17","slug":"gold-for-william-in-maths-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/gold-for-william-in-maths-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"Gold for William in Maths Challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-image alignright\"><figure class=\"alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Maths-Challenge-2019.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3107\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Maths-Challenge-2019.jpg 375w, https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Maths-Challenge-2019-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 375px) 100vw, 375px\" \/><figcaption>William Ellison receiving his maths awards from Mr Spicer<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Over 270,000 pupils from across the UK sat the Junior Maths Challenge this summer, with roughly the top 6% receiving a gold certificate.  <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>William Ellison, now in Year 9, not only gained a \u2018gold\u2019 but his score was so high that he was invited to take part in a follow-on competition, the Junior Kangaroo. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the same day, he went on to sit the Junior Mathematical Olympiad paper, which only about 9,200 students qualify for.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>William was awarded a Certificate of Merit in the Kangaroo by being in the top 25% of scorers \u2013 a great achievement.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the highly demanding Olympiad, where full written solutions are required, William also achieved a merit. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking of his experience, William reported: \u201cThe Olympiad paper was the most difficult but I really enjoyed the challenge of the questions.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Spicer, of the Maths Department, commented: \u201cWe are delighted with William\u2019s success and look forward to this year\u2019s Junior, Intermediate and Senior Maths Challenges in which many Bridgnorth Endowed School pupils will participate and, hopefully, enjoy testing themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over 270,000 pupils from across the UK sat the Junior Maths Challenge this summer, with roughly the top 6% receiving a gold certificate.
