From Food to Forensics, Year 11 students were introduced to a variety of exciting future job roles and pathways at a brand-new careers event held in school this Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During a live cooking demonstration, award-winning Chef, Steve Guy, shared his journey in the food industry, including his time as Head Chef to Jamie Oliver and his role in new product development, which involved designing food products for major supermarkets and brands like Nando’s and KFC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Creative arts consultants, Saskia Guy and Gem Medley, came with plenty of energy and passion as they explained how they took their talents and built The ReachOut Arts Group to deliver engaging programmes for theatres, schools and businesses. The students also got the chance to unleash their creativity by having a go at putting a creative brief together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bridgnorth Veterinary Centre\u2019s Senior Vet, Sarah Probert, reflected on her own personal quest and talked to students, not just about careers in animal care, but how to boost their prospects with volunteering, thorough research and perseverance.<\/p>\n\n\n

For those interested in health and social care, Telford College brought in their mobile training unit, equipped with the very latest technology, and pupils had the opportunity to hone their diagnostic skills on virtual patient ‘Betty’.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emily Mouland, a newly-qualified solicitor from local law firm Lanyon Bowdler, gave a talk on different pathways to becoming a lawyer, including routes that don\u2019t require top grades at A Level and first-class law degrees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Representing the forces, we invited the Royal Air Force in to showcase the benefits of signing up and the huge number of careers on offer, ranging from cyberspace and engineering to hospitality and logistics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our very own Head of Science and Technology, Ms Stanley, wowed students with her background in forensic science, revealing how crime scenes are handled as well as some of the headline-grabbing cases she worked on and her experience as an expert witness.<\/p>\n\n\n

For students thinking of sport as their next step, Shrewsbury Town FC Foundation gave them the chance to find out more about their sports courses and put them through their paces in a practical football coaching session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Careers Lead, Miss Edwards, commented: \u201cI\u2019d like to say a big thank you to everyone who gave up their time to come into school and provide some valuable insight into the world of work.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe day was a huge success and certainly inspired our Year 11 students to dream big and aim high when considering which direction to take after their GCSE exams.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
