Year 11 student, Rhys Saunders, who led the Ukraine Christmas Shoebox Appeal<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Organisers of the school\u2019s recent Ukraine Shoebox Appeal have praised the incredible generosity of the Bridgnorth Endowed community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following a plea for help from Bridgnorth’s Ukraine charity shop, Assistant Headteacher, Mrs Tristham, decided to put together a top team of Year 11 students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

House Captain, Rhys Saunders, stepped up as project leader and immediately got to work, liaising with the shop, organising volunteers and running every aspect of the campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The team set up their operations in a spare classroom, which became a hive of activity as 10-15 students wrapped and filled boxes every lunchtime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Contents included treats like toys and sweets for children and useful items, such as toothbrushes, soap, hats and gloves, wind up torches and watches for adults and older children.<\/p>\n\n\n

After an overwhelming response and a great deal of hard work, the final count came to just over 60 shoeboxes, which will soon be making their way to a camp housing refugees just outside Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Team leader, Rhys, commented: \u201cThis has been an amazing project for a very worthwhile cause and I\u2019d like to thank everyone who donated, as without them this wouldn\u2019t have been possible.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019d also like to give special thanks to the team who worked tirelessly over many lunchtimes, wrestling with wrapping paper and making sure each box was filled with a good mixture of items.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ukraine charity shop will deliver all of the shoeboxes collected themselves and have promised to share videos of the children opening them at Christmas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
