{"id":11847,"date":"2022-11-08T13:33:00","date_gmt":"2022-11-08T13:33:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/?p=11847"},"modified":"2022-11-12T13:34:12","modified_gmt":"2022-11-12T13:34:12","slug":"bridgnorth-endoweds-library-turns-over-a-new-leaf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/bridgnorth-endoweds-library-turns-over-a-new-leaf\/","title":{"rendered":"Bridgnorth Endowed\u2019s Library Turns Over a New Leaf"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/BES-Library-Refresh.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11848\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/BES-Library-Refresh.jpg 375w, https:\/\/www.bridgnorthendowed.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/BES-Library-Refresh-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 375px) 100vw, 375px\" \/><figcaption>Mrs Summerhayes pictured sorting book donations for the new library with Year 8 students<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>A raft of improvements and changes are on the cards for Bridgnorth Endowed\u2019s school library with a plethora of support coming from its students, parents, staff and members of the local community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last month, an appeal went out for second-hand books to boost the library\u2019s stock and, since then, a steady flow of bags and boxes of reading matter has been arriving in school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Soon after joining BES this September, headteacher, Mr Penn, put the library refresh firmly on the agenda and recruited an experienced task force, headed up by literacy lead, Mrs Summerhayes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mrs Summerhayes commented: \u201cThere\u2019s so much joy to be had from reading and, although we recognise that we are in the digital age, there\u2019s no substitute for the feel and smell of a book.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are all very passionate about restoring the library to its former glory, and hope to create a welcoming reading space at the heart of the school, where books are much more accessible.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In parallel to the book appeal, the team has also been busy evaluating various software systems to help to manage the library as efficiently as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This will tie in with the Accelerated Reader programme, which the school has run for almost eight years, as part of its strategy to encourage students to develop a lifelong love of reading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ultimately, the vision is for the new library to become a hub for students to find the latest, most sought-after books, alongside the classics, and wider reading material, such as newspapers and articles relevant to young people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As well as replenishing the shelves, plans are in place for an exciting calendar of activities and events, engaging themed displays, a \u2018wall\u2019 of student reviews, and plenty of buzz around books to entice pupils into the wonderful world of reading.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A raft of improvements and changes are on the cards for Bridgnorth Endowed\u2019s school library with a plethora of support coming from its students, parents, staff and members of the local community.
