Trip to See National Theatre’s Macbeth

GCSE students anticipating the start of the National Theatre production of Macbeth

A group of Year 10 and 11 students enjoyed a night out at Wolverhampton Grand Theatre to see the National Theatre production of Macbeth earlier this month.

As a key GCSE text, the play provided wonderful dramatic insight into Shakespeare’s work and gave students an illuminating evening of theatre.

A contemporary twist was added to the Shakespearean classic and the spectacular set, which was based on a post-apocalyptic vision of the future, ramped up the audience’s excitement from the outset.

The impressive cast was led by Michael Nardone, playing the title role, and Patrick Robinson, who delivered a powerful and highly emotive Banquo.

During the intermission, the students were extremely enthused, getting into lively discussions about all aspects of the performance, before an equally gripping second half.

Mr Butler, Head of English and Languages, reports: “It was a very enjoyable and fulfilling trip that will certainly have strengthened the students’ knowledge of the play ahead of their GCSE exams.”
